# Advanced customer search

> Search the Users list by name, phone, address, order, product bought, tag, spend and more

Advanced customer search adds a **Search by** dropdown next to **Search Users** on the Users list, so you can find customers by phone, address, what they bought, how much they spent and more.

**Shows in:** Users list, next to Search Users

## Turn it on

1. Go to **WooCommerce → Powerups** and switch on **Advanced customer search**.
2. Open **Users**, pick a type from the **Search by** dropdown, and search.

The dropdown starts on **Default** on every visit. **Default** is WordPress's own user search, unchanged.

## Search types

For types with a special format, the search box shows an example.

| Type | What it matches | Examples |
| - | - | - |
| **Name** | Account, billing or shipping name. All words must match. | `jane smith` |
| **Email** | Account or billing email | `@example.com` |
| **Phone** | Phone digits, however the number was saved | `5550199` |
| **Company** | Company | `Acme` |
| **Address** | Address | `High Street` |
| **City** | City | `Leeds` |
| **Postcode** | Postcode, spaces ignored | `LS1 4AP` |
| **Order number** | Customers with this order (custom numbers too) | `1042` |
| **SKU purchased** | Customers who bought this exact SKU | `HD-XL-BLK` |
| **Product purchased** | Customers who bought a product, by name | `Hoodie` |
| **Customer tag** | Customers with a tag (only while [Customer tags](/admin-powerups/customer-tags) is on and has at least one tag group) | `VIP` |
| **Number of orders** | Order count | `5`, `5+`, `>3`, `2-4`, `0` for none |
| **Lifetime spend** | Total of paid orders | `>500`, `100-300` |
| **Ordered in** | Customers who ordered in a period | `today`, `yesterday`, `this month`, `last 30 days`, `2026`, `2026-03`, `2026-01..2026-03` |

<Note>
Order number, SKU, product, spend, number of orders and date searches need High-performance order storage.
</Note>

**Number of orders** and **Lifetime spend** cap very large numbers at the largest amount they search for. A number too long to read as an amount finds nothing.

Only registered customers are listed, because guests have no account. To find guest orders, use [Advanced order search](/admin-powerups/advanced-order-search).

SKU and product searches use WooCommerce's order-product lookup table, which updates in the background. A just-placed order can take a moment to appear.

### Who can use which types

Search types need permission to manage WooCommerce. The order-based ones (**Order number**, **SKU purchased**, **Product purchased**, **Number of orders**, **Lifetime spend** and **Ordered in**) also work for people who can edit orders. Types you can't use aren't in your dropdown, so a role that can only list users sees none of them.

## Settings

| Setting | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Search by** | All types | Which types appear in the dropdown. Slower types are marked. |

## Performance

Types marked **Slower** look inside customer details or add up orders, which can't use database indexes: Name, Email, Phone, Company, Address, City, Postcode, Number of orders and Lifetime spend. On stores with many customers or orders, a search can take a few seconds. Order number, SKU, product, tag and order date stay fast.

## Data
