# Performance

> What the amber warnings and Slower badges mean, and the fast alternatives

Power-ups that are off add nothing to your store. Settings are saved per power-up and only load on every request when a power-up that needs them is on.

## Warnings and Slower badges

Some settings can slow a screen on stores with many orders or customers. They're marked in two ways:

* An **amber warning** under the setting explains the cost.
* A **Slower** badge marks the slow options in a list.

The choice still works, but it takes longer on big stores.

## Slow choices and fast alternatives

| Power-up | Slower choice | Why | Faster alternative |
| - | - | - | - |
| [Advanced order search](/admin-powerups/advanced-order-search) | Customer, Billing email, Billing phone, Company, Product, SKU, Variation, Coupon, Shipping method, Payment method, Transaction ID, Custom metadata, Order notes | They look inside text and can't use database indexes. | Order number, Customer ID, Order status, Exact total, Total range |
| Advanced order search | Custom metadata with no keys listed | Reads every order's metadata. | List the keys you need under **Custom metadata: only these keys**. |
| [Advanced customer search](/admin-powerups/advanced-customer-search) | Name, Email, Phone, Company, Address, City, Postcode, Number of orders, Lifetime spend | They look inside customer details or add up orders. | Order number, SKU purchased, Product purchased, Customer tag, Ordered in |
| [Customer table columns](/admin-powerups/customer-table-columns) | Orders, Lifetime spend, Average order, Last order, when High-performance order storage is off | They search all order data for each page of users. | Turn on High-performance order storage. |
| [Duplicate customer finder](/admin-powerups/duplicate-customers) | A scan | Reads every customer account in batches. | It only runs when you click Scan. |
| [Analytics order filters](/admin-powerups/analytics-filters) | Shipping method, Customer role | They look inside order items or customer accounts. A year-long report can take 1 to 2 seconds on a store with 100,000 orders. | Country, State, City, Payment method |
| Analytics order filters | Any filtered report | Skips WooCommerce's report cache, so it's counted fresh each time. | Remove the filters when you don't need them. |
| [Scheduled action monitor](/admin-powerups/scheduled-actions) | A long **Keep finished actions for** period | The actions table grows, which slows queue runs. | Keep the default (31 days). |
| [Autoloaded options](/admin-powerups/autoloaded-options) | The owner filter | Guesses the owner of every autoloaded option (tens of milliseconds on big sites). | Search by option name. |
| [Database clean-up](/admin-powerups/database-cleanup) | Checks badged **Slower to scan** in **Clean these every week** | Each one walks a whole table every week. | Leave them out of the weekly clean-up and clean them by hand when needed. |

## What we measured

With every power-up on, the plugin adds no database queries to the storefront, cart or checkout.

On a test store with 100,000 orders, 50,000 customers and 10,000 products, it added about 10 ms to the Orders list and 20 ms to the Users list with all 12 customer columns. With warm caches, most searches, filters and tool screens took 0.4 to 1.6 seconds, page load included. Big jobs, such as a duplicate scan or a database clean-up, run in steps of a few seconds each.

See [How we test](/admin-powerups/how-we-test#a-large-store) for every number and what we haven't measured yet.

## High-performance order storage

Several power-ups are faster, or only work, with WooCommerce's High-performance order storage. Turn it on in **WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → Features**.

## WooCommerce Analytics data

Product, SKU and Variation searches use WooCommerce's order-product lookup table, which Analytics keeps. If you turned Analytics off or never imported your order history, those searches read every order's items. Import history in **WooCommerce → Analytics → Settings**.
