# Switch to customer

> Log in as a customer to see the store as they do, then switch back

Switch to customer lets you see the store as a customer sees it, then switch back to your own account without logging in again.

**Shows in:** Users list, order page

## Turn it on

Go to **WooCommerce → Powerups** and switch on **Switch to customer**.

<Note>
  If the User Switching plugin is active, this power-up stays off. Use one or the other.
</Note>

## Switch to a customer

You'll find a switch link in three places:

* **Users list**: **Switch to** under the user's name.
* **User profile**: **Switch to this customer**.
* **Order page**: **Switch to customer** opens that order in the customer's My Account.

After switching, you land on the page picked in **After switching, open**. From an order, you land on that order in My Account. Links that point off this site are ignored, and you land on the settings page instead.

</Frame>

## Switch back

While switched, a banner at the bottom right says who you're viewing as. Switch back from:

* the banner (**Switch back to …**),
* the admin bar,
* the My Account menu.

## Who you can switch to

* Only users with a role you tick under **Who you can switch to**.
* Never admins, and never anyone with more access than you.
* You need permission to manage WooCommerce and to edit that user.

<Note>
  On multisite, only super admins can switch, because WordPress only lets them edit other accounts. Shop managers and site admins don't get the links.
</Note>

If another staff member is already switched into that customer, you're warned and asked to confirm (**Switch anyway**).

## How long a switch lasts

* Your cart and the customer's cart are kept separate.
* A switch ends when you log out or log in again.
* It expires after 12 hours.
* Changing your password ends it.

## Settings

| Setting | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Who you can switch to** | Subscriber, Customer | Roles staff can switch to. Admins are never included. Other options: Editor, Author, Contributor, Shop manager. |

## Audit log

Records of switches that are still active expire on their own within 12 hours, even after the plugin is deleted.
