Autocomplete orders moves orders straight to Completed when your rules match, for example paid orders for virtual products. Paid orders that match skip Processing. WooCommerce on its own only completes orders where every item is both virtual and downloadable. This power-up lets you choose the rules. Shows in: Order status after payment

Turn it on

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Powerups, click Configure on Autocomplete orders, and tick at least one rule under Complete an order when.
  2. Click Save changes, then switch the power-up on.
With no rules ticked, nothing changes, not even the exceptions.

Rules

Under Complete an order when, tick any of:
  • The order is paid
  • Every item is virtual
  • Every item is downloadable
  • It has selected products
  • It has products in selected categories (subcategories count too)
  • It has products with selected tags
  • It has products in selected shipping classes
  • It was paid with a selected payment method
Rules needed decides whether Any checked rule or All checked rules must match. The default is Any checked rule.
“The order is paid” completes every paid order, including ones you still need to ship. Every rule except the payment method rule also needs the order to be paid.

Payment methods marked “Not paid yet”

Methods like Direct bank transfer, Check payments and Cash on delivery are marked Not paid yet. If you pick them, orders complete before the money arrives, and completed orders unlock downloads. Only pick them if you trust those customers. “The order is paid” never counts cash on delivery orders, which reach Processing before any money arrives. Confirmed bank transfers and cheques count.

Never complete when

These always win over the rules: The exceptions also stop WooCommerce’s own completion of virtual and downloadable orders.

Timing and email

A wait runs as a background job. If background jobs don’t run on time on your site, you’ll see a warning; see Background jobs. Switching the power-up off cancels completions that are still waiting. You can still resend the email by hand after a completion that skipped it. If a completion fails half way, a later “Completed order” email still goes out.

What gets recorded

  • Each completed order gets an order note that names the rule, starting “Completed automatically by Admin Powerups”.
  • Details are logged under WooCommerce → Status → Logs, source admin-powerups-autocomplete.

When the rules run

The rules act when a payment completes. When staff move an order to Processing by hand, WooCommerce records the paid date as usual and the order isn’t completed, unless Also complete orders staff set to Processing is on. Completing such an order by hand still sends the Completed email.

Check and apply

The Check and apply tab needs the power-up to be on.
  • Check an order: type an order number and click Check to see why it would or would not complete.
  • Orders waiting in Processing: click Count matching orders, then Complete matching orders to apply your rules to orders already waiting. Emails follow your settings.
With custom order numbers, type the order number, not the internal ID.

Known limitations

  • “Every item is virtual” and “Every item is downloadable” fail if a product on the order was deleted.
